Having competed in two Rally’s from Spain to Dakar in Senegal on the KTM 690 Enduro R, I have a special connection to this bike. But as is the case with most KTM’s they are known for playing up when it comes to the electronics. I experienced that in both my rally’s. Good thing it was nothing more than some lose connections and it was fixable on the route. If you read the forums you will find riders who are having a lot more trouble with the electronics on their KTM’s. Luckily with MotoDreamer we travel as team and the bikes are kept absolutely services and up to date.

The later years models are now even more enduro styled in their design. So to use the bike for longer adventure trip you need to do modifications like adding bigger tanks, wind protection and possibly a navigation tower. The single cylinder engine delivers great power riding off-road. The suspension is pretty stiff, but the handling on paved curvy roads is still pretty good. And as with any adventure bike with a 21′ front wheel that is great on the dirt, but does add a little instability and vibration on the road.

The KTM 690 is a solid bike for a dual sport tour in Colombia and one of our favorite places to explorer with this bike is the Guajira desert in the north of the country. Here the KTM really gets into its natural habitat and every ride will enjoy the racing genes that every KTM is created from.
