The Yamaha Tenere 700, man it has been a very long time since I have been so excited about a new bike arriving. We have for a period of nearly 10 years been running the older, but smaller sister, the Yamaha XT660R in our fleet. I can say, without a doubt, that out of all the motorcycles and brands we have dealt with in the past 15 years. The Yamaha XT660R was the most reliable. Best built. Greatest value for the price. Easiest to fix and funnest to handle in all the different types of terrain we endure in Colombia.

The new Tenere 700 is building on the legacy. Remember the iconic Yamaha Tenere from the Dakar Rally heydays back in the 1980’s. The classic blue and yellow color scheme? I’m sure many of our mature riders remember clearly if you have been into motorcycles and adventure all you life. The new 700 has many new features and is built for real adventure and off road riding. There are no unnecessary technology and over engineered features on the bike. This is something you learn to appreciate if you have even been on a serious motorcycle adventure to places where there are no 24 hour roadside assistance and great phone and data connectivity.

Is your bike a luxury SUV?

Many new bikes seem to compete more on on being the most luxurious “SUV” with tons of electronics, sensors and rider assist technology, while scaling back the real off-road capabilities. But I guess the tendency is that most riders do not use their motorcycles as much of the road as the aftermarket parts and accessories mounted on their bikes suggest. So that is very similar to the 4×4 SUV market. The Yamaha Tenere 700 is built to go explorer for real!
